Sake in the Rocks is stunning and good value (1/4 the price of Tetsuya). The high-end restaurants in Sydney are generally bad value -- if you are intent on high-end, then do it in Melbourne, higher quality for half the SYD price. There are some quite good low-end restaurants, such as Mint Cafe (morrocan aussie style) and a really great neighbourhood Italian cafe near the casino whose name I don't know (but it only seats a dozen people, menu is choice of 2 or 3 dishes each day, basically home cooking). Also some pubs qualify as gourmet (better than Ray's in the US as a point of comparison); this was my biggest surprise in Australia. Enjoy the hunt for great food, SYD is full of stunning food in all sorts of unlikely places (but often not at the hyped locations). indian restaurants in sydney
